Safety

EPA logoCulture of Safety

It is the policy of Yearout Mechanical Inc. to provide a safe work place, safe equipment, and proper materials, and to establish and carry out safe methods and practices by the employees at all times. In case of injury or illness, the best first aid and medical services available will be provided. When an employee enters the employment of Yearout Mechanical they have the right to expect a proper place in which to work and proper machines and tools with which to do their job, enabling them to devote their energies to their work without danger to life or health. Each employee is empowered with the responsibility of safety, not only for themselves and their co-workers, but for their families as well. They are trained that safety is not the Safety Managers job, but their job and they have the right and duty to correct any situation they observe on site that may not be safe and to “shut down” the job to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

Daily activities on our job sites include a stretching program to limber the muscles for the days work, Pre Task Plans and Tool Box Talks. The foreman reviews the tasks of the day with his crew and they discuss the possible hazards and how to mitigate them. Our employees have embraced the Pre Task Plan because it is pertinent to the tasks they are doing that day and helps them look for and solve possible safety issues before they happen.

We approach each project by starting with extensive pre-planning sessions not only within the company, but we also include the general contractor, other specialty contractors and our subcontractors. These meetings include Project Mangers, Foremen, Safety Managers and other key personnel from each company on the project. We have been very successful with our pre-planning sessions, they help to not only address project concerns, they also give us an opportunity to go over the safety plan for the entire project and address potential safety concerns and how they will be mitigated. It gives everyone on the project the chance to pre-plan for safety and let their employees know in advance what to look out for from a safety standpoint.

Our “Safety Brings You Home” campaign is total family involvement in safety. We involve the children of our employees so that the children understand what safety is and the possible hazards that their parents face at work. This encourages our employees to keep in mind that “Safety Brings You Home.”
